CHAPTER VI

Ah! little prince, I understood, little by little, your little melancholy life. You had long had for distraction only the softness of the sunsets. I learned this new detail, the fourth day in the morning, when you said to me:

- I like sunsets. Let's go see a sunset...

- But you have to wait...

- Wait for what ?

- Wait for the sun to set.

You looked very surprised at first, and then you laughed at yourself. And you said to me:

In effect. When it is noon in the United States, the sun, everyone knows, sets over France. It would be enough to be able to go to France in one minute to watch the sunset. Unfortunately France is far too far away. But, on your so small planet, you just had to pull your chair back a few steps. And you watched the twilight whenever you wanted to...

- One day, I saw the sun go down forty-three times!

And a little later you added:

- You know... when we're so sad we like sunsets...
